Great Fantasy Reads for Pride Month

Have you read any LGBT+ friendly books recently? We have, and we’re more than happy to share them with you during pride month 2023! Let us know in the comments if we’re missing any of your favourites.

The Legend of Kyoshi

This duology comprised of ‘The Rise of Kyoshi’ and ‘The Shadow of Kyoshi’ by F.C. Yee has some especially beautiful pride-affirming narratives.

Set within the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender, these books take a deep dive on the origins of a historical figure. Filled with romance, intrigue, and action, I can’t recommend these books enough.

Wolfsong

A pack of werewolves see beyond the stigmas of the modern world. This is a mature book and definitely not for young readers. This one is a slow burn with a heavy focus on romance.

Skulduggery Pleasant

The series starts with a rather heteronormative beginning, but the Skulduggery Pleasant series later evolved into something more LGBTQ+ friendly.

Admittedly, if you’re looking for LGBTQ+ fiction to read right now, starting this series would be rather an investment.

Irish author Derek Landy has been releasing approximately one book every year since 2007, and it’s very interesting to see how political changes across the UK and Ireland have affected the range of characters present in this popular teen’s fiction series.

Demon Road Trilogy

By the same author as Skulduggery Pleasant, the Demon Road trilogy is less popular with readers, but it is a completed series with an LGBT+ protagonist.

Amber doesn’t have an easy time, but she’s also an interesting role model for LGBT+ teen readers.

The Stormlight Archive

Whilst the series is yet to really explore gay relations with any of its main characters, it is still worth mentioning that positive LGBT+ narratives are present in this world-famous series, and many of its readers hope to see more in the series’ future.

The Song of Achilles

Almost everyone interested in queer fiction has already consumed this poetic Greek romance, but it should definitely be on this list.

A heart-rending tale about what it means to love someone better than you in every way. You can read my review of The Song of Achilles if you’re interested.
